Sayuri commish 4 Henry88 by ChibiSofa

Name: Sayuri Kazuko

Age:  15

Height 5’4

Eyes: a dark blue

Hair: blazing fire red

Weapon: she carries a sword with her.

Brief history: she was Irish/Japanese/American and was living with her mother and her big sister in the sates, her father was in the Irish military's Mecha division, she did not see her father much but the time she spent with him, and the many stories she heard that influenced her and her sister (she went to the marines)  go down the road she is walking down.

Personality: she has pride but she not arrogant and she had an underlining kindness to her. Her big sister instinct has made her rather popular with her fellow academy students.

Thunder rumbled as a dark figure wearing a long black cloak placed a small item, slightly larger than a loaf of bread and covered completely in a dark cloth, into a large garbage dumpster.

Suddenly, a voice came crashing through the rain: “Who’s there?”

The figure looked up to see a large man with a baseball bat.

“Who are you? What are you doing here?”

With a low growl, the dark figure disappeared in a cloud of smoke. The man rushed at him, but the figure was gone by the time he got there.

After standing there for a minute, he heard a noise that sounded like a baby crying. His attention turned to the dumpster. “What’s this?” he said quietly to himself. Upon further inspection and to his great surprise, he found a six-month-old baby boy staring at him. He had kicked off the dark blanket and now, his face wet by rain, he was wailing in the cold.

The man clutched the squirming boy to his chest and ducked inside, trying to dry the lad off. Who throws away a baby? he wondered. Who would do this? The baby began to cry again and Steven rocked him a little, realizing he knew nothing about babies, and had nothing to feed him, nor a bottle to put it in. Thankfully, the infant fell asleep in his arms.

As the infant slept, Steven sat in his rocking chair contemplating what to do with the child. The adoption laws in this country were lax at best so adopting the child would be an easy task.

As he made his way to where the youngster lay, a little glimmer caught his eye. “Hmm… what’s this?” It was a silver pendant with a black dragon on one side and the name David Blair on the other. “Well, well, so you have a name after all. Well, little David, my name is Steven Volkoff, and it looks like you have just been adopted.”

    Fourteen years later

The infant that Mr. Volkoff took in grew into a bright young teen. He was six-foot-two with jet-black hair and eyes that were as blue as the sea. He was inquisitive about everything.

    “David, your ride is here.”

“Thanks!” David shouted as he hopped onto the school bus. He lived in Terra of the Bantus Republic, a medium power on Earth.

    “Hey, David!”

David looked up to see his fellow student and friend, John Coiners. One year older than David, John was a big kid, with hair that looked like the top of a palm tree and just as green.

“John, how ya been?” He plopped down on the seat next to his friend.

     “Been keeping busy. You?”

“Just finished the evaporator last night.”

“You mean the one that dropped three stories?”

    “The same.”

John looked at David with amazement. “You are a miracle worker!”

“I’m no Scotty, but I get the job done.” They rode on in companionable silence.

The James Brink Middle School was small, with just four classrooms, so there was no gym or music class, but the teachers were nice enough, and today’s class was on mechas.

“In 2017, the threat of mutually assured destruction by nuclear weapons in the U.S. led to the creation of Mobile Attack Armor. These weapons were very slow and bulky, but their armor efficiency proved itself in the Avery Incident in Iran, where militants attempted to fire a nuclear missile at the U.S. capital, which was stopped by the MAA. This resulted in the complete destruction of the Iranian government. With its destruction came the complete downfall of all Muslim terror in the twenty-first century.

“After that point,” the teacher went on, “the MAA evolved into the mechas we know today.” She pushed up her round glasses and switched to the new slide showing a suit that looked like a mechanical predator. “2024 saw the first of these modern makes, the X-J Bird. It did not have the best maneuverability, but its speed was unchallenged. Then came the Brokerage, perhaps the best-known mecha in known history, equipped with twelve long-range ion guns. The Brokerage was the dominant mecha of its time.”

David knew most of this, and zoned out during the rest of the lesson.

Eventually the class ended and the two friends left to go to the school lunchroom.

John was the first to speak. “You know, David, that was probably the shortest class I have ever been to.”

“And there is a problem with that?” David said with a slight smirk.

“True,” a voice said from behind them.  “Leaving me behind?”

David and John turned around to see another one of their best friends, Nozomi.

“Heh, we were just looking for you,” said David sheepishly.

    “Hmm-mm, right.” She looked unconvinced.

Nozomi Shina. David had known her for most of his life. Nozomi was a Neko, a person who was born with genetic change, and she was born with the characteristics of a cat, which accounted for the ears and the fact that she was the cutest girl in school. Nozomi caught up with the two boys and they went to the cafeteria.

“Blast, they’re serving spaghetti again,” David said with a disgusted look on his face.

Nozomi wrinkled her nose. “Looks like you're going to have to go without lunch again.”

“I’ll live,” David said with a frown on his face.

They proceeded to seat themselves. This time, John spoke. “Hey, have you heard?”

“Heard what?” David said with his belly still growling.

“The mech academy is going through town this weekend; they’re having a test at the civic center, and those who pass are let into the academy.”

David cocked his eyebrow. “What are you proposing? That we all sign up?”

“Possibly,” John said with his trademark grin.

Later that day, David went up to the roof of the school where he set up a chair for his ritual of drinking lemonade as the sun sank and the sky went to a nice shade of red. David thought to himself, Should I sign up? I mean, I haven’t finished school, but then again, being a pilot is a high-paying job and I could see a lot of places that I wouldn't see with a normal job.

He took a sip of his lemonade and sighed. “I’ll give it two days to think about it.”

He looked to his side to see Mr. Volkoff. “Time to come home, David,” he said.

    “Yes, sir.”

As they went down the stairs, Mr. Volkoff spoke. “I've heard that you're thinking about joining the mech academy at Tresser.”

    “Are you angry, sir?”

Mr. Volkoff smiled. “No, quite the contrary. Even though you're young, I think you'll do well at the academy, David.”

David’s eyes lit up. “You mean—?”

“I think your friend said their registration test is at the civic center this weekend, so you might want to rest up.”

That weekend, David, John, and Nozomi made their way to the civic center. David was very nervous, and John quickly noticed.

"You will do fine, David. Don’t worry; Nozomi and I are taking the test, too.”

David sighed. "I studied all week, so I hope I get in.”

The term "packed" was an understatement. There were at least a thousand people at the center and the chances for passing seemed little to none.

They stood staring until someone asked, “Are you here for the tests?” The teens spun around to see a man in black suit. “Well, are you?" he said impatiently. All they could do was nod their affirmation. “This way, please,” he said, and he led the three along the back way until they came to a small room. “Please take your seats.” They did so. “The test will start soon.” The man left the room. Thirty minutes later another black-uniformed person came in and passed out the tests. They were three pages long. “You have two hours to finish them. Begin."

As the time passed, David and the others were having little problem with the test. Less could be said for the other people, some of whom looked like they were going to burst a blood vessel.

“Time’s up.” The man collected the test papers and went to the front of the room. “We will give you the results this Friday and thank you for coming.” The sun had begun to set and David, John, and Nozomi made their way home.

That night David looked out his window and stared up at the night sky as he took in the sounds of dogs barking, bugs chirping, and cars passing. Can I do it? If I get accepted, can I get through the thing?

“Can’t sleep, can you?” David turned around to see Steven standing at his door.

    A slight frown came over David’s face. “No, I guess I can't stop worrying…”

“…about being accepted into the academy?”

David’s frown got bigger at the question.

Steven put his hand on the teen’s shoulder. “Now you listen to me, young man. I did not raise any fool. You have a chance few people like you ever get and besides, you always said you wanted a life of adventure. Now's your chance for both—don’t waste it.”

    “Don’t worry, sir, I won’t.”

    “Good, now get some sleep.”

The next morning, David got up early and after a quick shower he was dressed and headed downstairs, just to be met by Steven holding a green envelope. “Look what came in the mail for you today.”

David could not believe what he was seeing. “You mean?”

Steven held out the envelope with a big old smile. “See for yourself.”

David took the envelope gingerly and opened it up to read out loud.

"Dear Mr. Blair, we are proud to inform you that you are accepted to the Do Drift Mech Academy on Tresser Time Island. A plane will pick you up the day after tomorrow, so be prepared for an adventure of a lifetime."

David fell down on a chair with a stunned look on his face.

"Here, have some tea,” Steven said with a pleased grin.

After heading up to his bedroom, David was still in a state of shock as he flopped down on his bed. Ten minutes later, he got excited phone calls from John and Nozomi to tell him they had been accepted as well.

As the morning sun rose two days later, David’s eyes opened with excitement. “Today is the day,” he thought to himself as jumped out of bed and started getting ready.

“Hey, better hurry!” Steven called up from below. “The bus should be here in the next half an hour.”

“Alright, I’ll be right down.” After quickly packing a small duffel bag, David made his way down the stairs as fast as he could with Steven whistling at the door.

“Not bad. You’ve got twelve minutes to spare and your buddies are waiting outside.”

    “John and Nozomi?”

    “Yep.”

David stepped out the door to meet his two friends, all ready to go.

“Good to see you made it,” said John.

“You should have set your clock a little earlier,” Nozomi teased.

The bus came around the corner just as David put his duffel bag over his shoulder. "Looks like our ride is here, " he said, taking a deep breath.

"All aboard!" called the bus driver as the doors opened, and as the three youths step onto the bus, Steven called out, "Keep safe now, you hear?"

With that the bus drove off.

The bus was empty; it was only the three of them.

"Don’t worry,” the bus driver said when he caught David’s look in the rearview mirror. “The plane will have more people on it."

David’s head perked up. “We're getting on a plane?”

The driver smirked. "Didn’t think I was going to drive across the sea, did ya?" He guffawed, as if it were the funniest joke in the world.

About three hours later they got to the airport.

The driver spoke again. "All right, everybody off and I will take you where you need to go." This was the first time any of them have been in a big airport like this, and David supposed it showed. "Right this way." The driver ushered the three to where their plane stood waiting. It was dark blue with a red stripe going along its side. "They will be taking off soon, so you’d better get some seats while the getting’s good."

David shook the driver's hand. "Thanks for getting us here Mr…?"

"Gouda, son. They call me Gouda. Now, you’d best get along or you will miss your flight."

David went on board first, followed by John and Nozomi. The inside of the plane was of good size and could hold up to twenty people. As they seated themselves they saw a slight problem.

"Looks like you’ll be sitting alone, David." John pointed out there were two seats per side.

"It's alright," said David. He found a seat opposite his friends, and when he’d gotten comfortable and they were getting ready to close the door of the plane, a voice shouted out, "Wait!"

The pilot stopped the door. "Oh, I’m sorry, miss. I didn’t see you there."

Then David saw her clearly for the first time. She was wearing a green shirt that was cut off at the shoulders and a pair of bell-bottom jeans. Her hair was as red as fire and her eyes were the most wondrous shade of blue he had ever seen. On her shoulder was what appeared to be a sheath, the type that would hold a sword—and sure enough, a hilt stuck out behind her head.

When she headed down the aisle, David became nervous, and as she got closer to him without taking a seat, his nervousness slowly transformed into outright panic.

"Can I sit here?" she asked him, pinning him with those blue eyes.

"Uh s-sure,"David stammered, trying—and failing—to keep his cool. He saw his two friends snickering among themselves.

"Thanks," the redhead said as she put her sword in the overhead storage and sat down in her seat.

"You a sword person?" David asked when he’d finally gathered enough courage to speak.

"A sword woman, " she corrected him.

"Oh, sorry, I didn’t know." David could feel his cheeks flush with embarrassment.

"It’s okay, swordsmanship is not as well known as it used to be."

That was true enough. David thought swordsmanship had suffered a great deal because of a lack of interest.

"And you want to learn to be a mecha pilot?" She looked at him this time.

    "Yes, I do.”

She shrugged. “Well, I want to bring swordsmanship to the world of mecha."

David giggled a little. "A giant robot with a sword? That will be something to see."

She gave him a small grin. "Thanks for the encouragement."

And with that the ice was broken, and the two of them began a rather long talk that lasted most of the six hours of the trip to the mech academy.

In that time David learned a few things about this girl. For one thing, she was Irish-American and was living with her mother in the States. Her father was in the Irish military's mecha division, and she did not see him much but for the few days a year she got to spend with him. It was from her father that she’d heard the many stories that had influenced her to go down the road she was taking. For another thing, her personality was different from what David had expected, given that his old man had told him that redheads always had a short temper. This girl was nothing like that. She had pride, but she was not arrogant and she had an underlying kindness to her.

After falling asleep for the rest of the trip, David felt someone shaking him lightly. "Hey, sleepy head. Wake up. We are about to land." David stirred, his eyes opening slowly to see that it was the redhead who was waking him up. A nice sight to wake up to.

David looked out the airplane window to see Tresser Time Island. It was rather large for an island—it even had its own port city—and he could also see the Academy dominating the one side of it. It was a truly massive place, David realized as he looked out over the grounds. The main school and dorms were in the center and the other Academy buildings radiated out from there.

It was then that the pilot spoke over the intercom"We will be landing in just a few minutes so please fasten your seatbelts.”

After landing and disembarking, all the teens could do was wait for someone from the Academy to pick the them up. Thankfully the wait was not too long—within minutes a van came around the nearest corner.

"Now that's what I call timing," David said, picking up his duffel bag.

"I'll say," chimed in Nozomi as the van parked in front of them and a rather old gentleman of around 65 years old stepped out. He was dressed in a fine suit. He took a moment to look over the four teens and then finally spoke.

"Welcome to Tresser Time Island Mecha Academy. My name is Daniel Hadley. I am the Academy Headmaster. Normally your instructor would be meeting you but the Academy is undergoing renovations in most of the training facilities and that will keep them busy for at least two weeks, so you four will start you reading Part of You lesson until they are finished.”

They boarded the van and it made its way to the Academy, the road leading there taking them through some thick forest. As they pulled up in front of the main building, David felt himself gaping; it was an amazing sight to take in. The front lawn had patches of colorful flowers and a large fountain. This was definitely not what they had expected to see as they got out of the van.

"Welcome the place where you will spend the next two years of your lives. Now, let's get you four settled in."

The dorms were bigger that they had thought and divided into three parts: one side for the boys, the other for the girls, and the center was a large communal living area.

"Well this is nice," David said, dropping his duffel bag.

"Here I thought they were going to put us in tents," Nozomi joked.

David gave a small chuckle. "Don't give them any ideas."

The redhead who was a part of their group sat down on one of the chairs and put her sword down next to her. "I hear that the Tresser Time Academy treats its students well, so I don't think there will be any problems," she said matter-of-factly.

David noticed her again and his curiosity got the better of him. "We did not catch your name."

The redhead looked him square in the eye. "My name is Sayuri Kazuko. What's yours?"

David felt his heart skip a beat. "David Blair."

Sayuri got up from her chair and held out her hand. "I will be happy to learn with you and the others here."

David took her hand and shook it lightly. "Same here. I would like you to meet my friends."

John and Nozomi came forward and introduced themselves. After the introductions, Nozomi spoke up. "It’s getting late so we should get off to bed." John, Sayuri and David nodded in agreement.

Two days had passed and the four were now class 214 and were studying their textbooks with vigor. When they were not studying, they spent time getting to know their fellow students at the Academy Cafeteria where they found that this place holds over 500 students. They met there each day for lunch, but today something interrupted them. There was some sort of commotion near the cafeteria door and David glanced over to see a girl being pushed down to the ground by a rather mean-looking student a bit older than they were.

"Who are those two?" David ask one of the other students.

"That is Wilson Bentley. He is an upperclassman and the girl is Christine Navarro. She’s new, like you."

David gritted his teeth. He was not going to let this Wilson person push a girl down, so he got up from his seat and began to walk over as another student tried to stop him.

"Just leave it. Wilson is pretty much the top dog around here and does what he wants."

David turned to the student with a determined look on his face. "I think this dog needs a kick in the chops." With that, he continued to walk to the front door.

"That's David for you," Nozomi said, recalling when she’d first met David. They were just six years old, and she was being bullied because of her ears and tail. Nevertheless, David came and ran them off and since then he had encouraged her to stand up for herself. Now he was about stand up for another and show this Wilson a thing or two.

Christine was on the ground whimpering as Wilson closed in on her, and that is when David stepped between them. Wilson looked up at this new obstacle keeping him from his latest victim, this new rookie who seemed to think he could stand up to the best pilot in the Academy.

"Stand aside, rookie… NOW." Wilson's voice was as cold as ice and so was his face and eyes.

"No, I will not." David stood his ground; there was no telling what this person would do to Christine if he backed off. The rest of the cafeteria was dead silent as the two stared each other down, like a dragon and a bear ready to do battle.

"I will tell you one more time: stand aside."

David just shook his head in defiance. "If you want to get to her, you have to get through me."

Wilson and David were eye to eye now and you could cut the tension with a knife. Wilson's eyes were shooting daggers; no one had ever dared to stand up to him before now. This punk rookie was stopping him from doing what he pleased. "You have no idea who you’re messing with."

David crossed his arms. "I guess I'll find out sooner or later."

Wilson was getting frustrated so he decided just to drop it and get back at David some other time. The onlookers couldn’t believe their eyes as Wilson walked out the door.

With Wilson gone, David turned his attention to the blue-haired Christine. "Are you alright?" he asked, reaching his hand down to pick her up.

"I  am fine… thank you." Her voice was soft and meek as he helped her up from the floor.

"Is there any reason why that Wilson guy was trying to hurt you?"

Christine was hesitant to say anything but he had saved her from Wilson just now. "I am telepathic, I can hear people's thoughts."

David was surprised; he’d never met a telepath before. Life was full of interesting people. "Nice to meet you. My name is David Blair. What is yours?"

Now it was Christine’s turn to be surprised. She was always laughed at and mocked because she was telepathic; even her own parents sent her here because they wanted nothing to do with her, but now a total stranger had just stood up for her. Everybody else would have left her to that jerk Wilson, so maybe… just maybe, he could be a friend… her first friend.

"My name is Christine Navarro. Nice to meet you." She smiled at him, and for the first time in a very long while she could smile honestly.

"Would you like to sit with me and my friends? I am sure they would like to meet you."

David led her over to the table where the others were sitting and four friends became five. They later found out that Christine Navarro was now a part of class 214.

It had been over a week since the cafeteria incident; Christine was getting along well with the other girls, and Nozomi and Sayuri had taken her under their collective wing, so hopefully she would learn how to stand up for herself. Then again, with those two as role models she may become more terrifying than any other girl in the Academy. Thankfully, she was not violent by nature, for which David was very grateful.

It was around noon when a knock came at the boys’ dorm door.

"I'll get it," David chimed as he got up from his chair. It turned out it was the mail carrier with a message. After thanking the carrier and starting to close the door, David stopped when he saw Sayuri approach from the girls’ dorm.

"Hey David, what's up?" she called.

"Got a note," David said as he held the door open for her to enter, and then followed her and took his seat.

" Well, don't just sit there. What does it say?" asked an eager Sayuri as she plopped down on a seat of her own.

David opened the note and read its contents. "Well, the headmaster wants some of us to pick up a package for him." He put down the note and got back up from his chair. "I'll go."

"Can I tag along?" Those blue eyes again; he could not say no to them.

"I don't see why not." After telling the others where they were going, they were off. It came as a surprise to both of them that this place had its own post office and the paths on the Academy grounds were well marked, so finding the way was no problem.

They  walked in silence until Sayuri spoke. "Why did you come here?"

David was surprised by the question. "Pardon me?"

Sayuri spoke again, this time in a more straightforward way. "Why did you decide to be a pilot?"

It was a fair question since he asked her the same thing on the plane. "I did not want an ordinary life… I want a life that will have adventure… danger…. fun."

David's words sounded sincere, and Sayuri found that to be a good quality to have, so she left it at that. The rest of their walk was rather  her quiet, until they found the post office. It was standard fare and it was simple to retrieve the small box and be on their way to the headmaster's office, but it took them at least 45 minutes to find that office.

David gave a knock on the door. "Come on in," the voice of headmaster Daniel called out and the two students entered the large office. It was filled with old books dating back to the 15th century and other old knick-knacks. "I see you got my package. Good." Sayuri placed it on his desk, but headmaster Daniel was not done with them. "I would like you to meet your instructor." The two students turned around at the sound of the door closing to see an athletic woman dressed in a black flight suit, with black hair with red strands in it. "This is Erina Fujiko and she will be you class’s instructor for the next two years."

"Hello, you two. I hope we get along well." Erina reached to shake their hands.

"Glad to meet you," both students replied. David turned around back to headmaster Daniel. "I forgot to ask what is inside the package."

The old man thought for a second. "I don't see any harm in showing you." Daniel opened the box promptly to reveal its contents. "There we are." Daniel put a fancy bottle on his desk.

Erina looked impressed at the sight of it. "You don't see that too often."

“Why? What is it?” It was Sayuri’s turn to speak.

"This, Miss Kazuko, is a very rare single malt whiskey worth well over $100,000." Daniel explained that he got this rare whiskey from a friend when he was an officer on board the space ship Idaho.

"You served on a space ship." David was surprised.

"Perhaps this Saturday we could sit down and talk about that, but for now, you had best be off."

The three exited the door. "You two are handling your studies alright?" asked Erina.

Both students spoke at the same time. "Yes, ma'am."

The instructor gave a small chuckle. "Just call me Erina."

Three weeks after Erina arrived their training picked up very quickly, and they  were soon introduced to the simulators. From outside, these were large and almost box-shaped, with steel steps leading up to the doors.

“These are some of the best mech simulators you guys will ever get to work with,” Erina began to speak to her students. “Now, the purpose of this exercise is for me to find your strengths and your weaknesses, so don’t get nervous.”

The students used the simulator one at a time; it took two and a half hours for all of them to finish. As the students took time to rest, Erina went over the stat sheet for each student. David had problems with coordination, Christine hesitated a little too much, Sayuri was showing signs of overconfidence, John needed to be more observant of things around him, and Nozomi… well, she needed a little confidence boost.

It was getting around 6:00 pm and the sun began to dip below the horizon, setting it ablaze in a gorgeous crimson. “Come on,” Erina said. “Dinner is on me.” All at the same time, the five students jumped up, eager to snag some chow.

As they made their way to Erina’s house, which was on the Academy grounds, the setting sun made the trees and flowers a sight to look at as the red light set on them. David had to admit he really liked it here, but there was one other thing he had noted and that was John. He had been very quiet ever since they got here, probably because he was around so much advanced tech that he was speechless. Then again, he had always been like that back at home. Every time he saw a new gadget he would get that gleam in his eye and that seemed to be the case here, but he never used to stay quiet for such a long time. Guess I’ll havet to talk to him later.

Erina’s house was a comfortable and roomy place with hardwood floors and nice furniture that felt good after a hard day’s training

“You guys wait here and I’ll get us something,” the instructor told them. The five were left in the living room.

“I wonder what we did to deserve this?” Sayuri said, and the others nodded in agreement. They had started training just two weeks ago, and it was a bit odd that she invited them to her house for dinner.

As time went on the wonderful smell of spaghetti filled the air. “Come on, its ready,” Erina called at last.

The fact that all six of them were sitting down eating and talking around a dinner table was rather surreal, but David felt comfortable with it, and after finishing with their food Erina began to go over their test results and what they had to do to improve. The five took the results in good stride, all things considered. They could have done worse.

“Thanks for the dinner, Erina. We enjoyed it,” Christine said softly.

"Not at all Christine,” the instructor answered. “I just wanted to know my students a little better.”

The weekend came and went in a blink of an eye, and it was Monday again. Today was sports day soccer, to be exact. Although David did not play soccer that much, he knew the rules. The large open grassy field behind the simulator building was perfect for today's game; the only downside was the instructor/referee, a 45-year-old heavyset man named Randall with broad shoulders, a worn face and a handlebar mustache. He had problems with his blood pressure, or at least that was the rumor.

The game started with no problems and for the next half an hour everything was going fine until David accidentally hit Randall in the face with the soccer ball. Despite David’s attempt at apologies he found himself running for his life from a very angry Randall. Running over bushes and benches, David tried to put some distance between him and Randall, but to no avail.

"GET BACK HERE, YOU LITTLE RUNT!” Randall yelled at the top of his lungs as he plowed through everything David just went over. There are days you just can’t win, David thought as the gymnasium came to view; it was a good place to lose this raging bull. David randomly ran through the halls of the gymnasium building, hoping to lose Randall, and to a point it worked, giving David time to catch his breath… but only until he heard Randall’s angry voice echoing through, the hall closing in on him. “Oh, give me a break,” David mumbled under his breath.

    “GLAD TO!”

The scream David gave was loud enough so everyone in and around the gymnasium could hear as he barely managed to get away from Randall’s crushing grasp.

Sayuri was just getting out of the shower with a towel wrapped around her when she heard probably one of the loudest screams she had ever heard. All the girls bolted for a hiding place, thinking it might a pervert or something. “Hang tight,” she told them. “I’ll see what's going on." With that, she peeked out the locker room door to see David trying to get out through one of the locked exits. “David, what on earth are you doing?”

He did not reply, as he seemed to be preoccupied with getting the door opened.

Unhappy at being ignored, Sayuri marched out of the locker room with nothing but her towel on. When she put a hand on David’s shoulder, it startled him, and she could see that he was very nervous. “David, what is wrong?”

He explained what happened with instructor Randall and why he was intent on beating him to a bloody pulp, and before he could say anything else, the sound of Randall’s cussing and fussing was closing in on them.

Sayuri had already believed David’s story, but when Randall’s angry voice came echoing down the hall, she really believed that Randall would try to hurt him. She had to think of something quick, and within moments an idea hit her. “Come on.” Sayuri grabbed David’s hand and began to drag him to the girls’ locker room. This made David’s panic meter explode but before they entered Sayuri turned to David and told him to close his eyes and, moreover, to put his hands in his pockets. David was not going to argue with her and did what he was told. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you bump into anyone,” Sayuri assured him, and then they went in.

The smell of steam and the sound of murmuring was all David could hear as Sayuri placed her hands on his shoulders and guided him to a safe hiding place in the locker room. “Now, just sit down here and I’ll let you know when it’s safe.”

David just bobbed his head up and down in response.

Sayuri went off to explain to the other girls what was going on. David still could not believe where he was and that Sayuri would help him like this, but now was not the time to be fussy.

"Blair! Where are you, you little runt?” came the sound of Randall's angry ranting out in the hallway. He seemed to be approaching and it was beginning to worry some of the girls, until finally they heard the sound of the other instructors talking Randall down and getting him out of the building.

Sayuri peeked out the door to see if the coast was clear, and quickly went to get David. “That was a close one. Now, lets get you out of here.”

And so, with his eyes still shut and his hands in his pockets, David was guided back to the door. “I owe you one for this, Sayuri,” he said with a grateful voice. “No problemo… and you can open your eyes now.”

David did so and retraced his steps to find his way out.

I posted in the wrong area like a dummy so lest get it right this time.
